Ramadan 2025: A Time for Spiritual Reflection and Renewal

Ramadan in 2025 started on Saturday, March 1, 2025, and will last until sunset on Sunday, March 30. This holy month is a meaningful time for Muslims to fast, contemplate and reload the batteries of their spirit.
Across the world, including in Uganda, they all began Ramadan, and for them this month is about fasting.
The crescent moon was sighted on Wednesday, according to the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council. That confirms, it’s Ramadan!
During this month, from morning to sunset, Muslims refrain from eating and drinking. This fosters a sense of self-restraint and empathy for the less fortunate.
“It is a special time and we urge Muslims to make the best out of it,” says Imam Sheikh Muhammad Kisambira from the Kampala National Mosque.
In this month, Muslims in Uganda will participate in nightly collective prayers called Taraweeh at mosques and prayer grounds whilst also feeding the poor and providing essentials for those in need.
This month, the council urges all to strive for unity, peace, and understanding.
Remember, when Ramadan comes around, it’s a time to show kindness, patience, and a thirst for giving.
Sheikh Kisambira notes, “Let's use Ramadan as a means to unite, build relationships, and spread positivity in our society.”
The last day of Ramadan, April 20 will mark the first day of Eid al-Fitr.
