Protesters set Soroti school on fire over delayed justice in pupil’s murder

Soroti, Uganda - Things got heated in Soroti town as people protested, even setting Jozan Nursery and Primary School on fire. All this craziness started because people are still waiting for justice after a pupil was killed way back on February 5, 2025.
The kid, whose name hasn't been released, was found dead in the school's outhouse, which, understandably, freaked everyone out. The police started looking into it, but the community's had enough waiting, so they took to the streets.
People say it was nuts. Protesters, mostly parents and locals, stormed the school and started torching stuff. Cops showed up to try and calm things down.
We're done waiting, said one protester who didn't want to be named. The police haven't done enough to find out who did it, and we want answers.
Joan Acom Alobo, the Soroti Woman Member of Parliament, said the murder was awful and everyone needs justice. She's standing with the kid's family.
I'm asking the police to hurry up and find the killers, Alobo said. The community deserves to know what happened, and we have to make sure justice is done.
The police put out a statement saying they're trying their best to solve the case and catch the people who did it.
We get why everyone's upset, but please, stay calm and let us do our work, said the police spokesperson.
This whole thing shows how worried people are about kids being safe at school and why it's important to act fast when something this terrible happens. People are seriously angry and want justice. We'll have to see what the authorities do about it.
While the investigation is going on, everyone's on edge. They want justice for the kid who was killed and better safety at schools so this never happens again.
